The comeback · tracked in the open

Down 28 kilos.
Optimising for the
hardest year yet.

A year ago Joel was almost at rock bottom. Then he decided to change everything. This is the full protocol — the training and the food — shared honestly, and tracked in public.

Two doors
"In January I realised I had two doors in front of me. One: carry on, feel terrible, and maybe not be here in ten or fifteen years. The other: get in shape, change my whole mentality, and optimise my health — because in a year I'm sailing solo around the world."

A year ago I was in bad shape — almost depressed. I'd put on over ten kilos, sitting at home, eating badly, drinking beer. I chose to change everything.

It's been incredible. 28 kilos gone, with my coach Jessica Reiman. I run, I eat properly, I dialled in my supplements and my sleep, I cut the alcohol and the treats — and I even started a skincare routine, for the first time in my 36 years.

Let's go around the world
together, on foot

48,000 kilometres. That's the distance Joel will sail alone. Before he leaves, the run club covers it together.

Before I leave, I want us to go around the world together, on foot. Join Jollen run club on Strava. Every kilometre you run or walk counts towards our shared goal of 48,000 kilometres.

Every kilometre also helps the Baltic Sea. I donate 10 cents for every kilometre we cover together to Baltic Sea conservation, and every partner who joins raises the amount.

Become a partner

I'm looking for partners who believe in adventure, in what people are capable of, and in a cleaner sea. If that sounds like you, let's talk.

The approach

Simple, honest, repeatable.

Two levers did most of the work. In Joel's words.

Food

Protein first, treats gone

"Even training seven times a week means nothing if you don't change how you eat."
  • Protein 1.5–2 g per kilo of bodyweight
  • Good carbs & whole grains, low fat
  • Cut the snacking — and didn't miss it
Training

Measure everything, keep going

"My VO₂ max started at 39 — the worst 30% for my age. Now it's 52. If I can do this, so can you."
  • 97 tracked sessions this year
  • Running the engine, gym for muscle
  • Enough sleep, no alcohol
